SHADOW STATIONS- THE YOUTH SHOW IN A GREATER WAY THE PRICE JESUS PAID

This past Friday, our high school youth contributed their time and effort to present the stations of the cross in a whole different way. By all accounts, it was beautifully done and people were impressed. The only complaint was that they are only doing it once and should do this in other places. I was proud of the effort that they gave, but even more so by their enthusiastic willingness to offer this effort to our Lord.

But the credit does not go to them - it goes to the Lord Jesus, who’s sacrifice they are depicting. This season of Lent is when we give special remembrance of Jesus coming to Earth to teach us, to heal us, to guide us, and most of all to pay the price for our salvation. The fact that they did this brought more people to this weekly Lenten remembrance. That is what is important. As is always the case, what glorifies God is not that which is impressive, but that which brings others closer to Christ. In some cases, the parents lead their kids to Jesus. In other cases, the kids lead the parents to Jesus. Let us never take for granted what Jesus has done for us, and our role to take that to others.

HOLY WEEK This is a week that separates the fair weathered friends from true Christians. There are some who come here once a year to celebrate this fun holiday, in some cases only coming here for the Easter egg hunt. But they are cheating themselves. This week is the culmination of everything about our Christian faith. It goes through the triumphal entry into Jerusalem, amidst cheering crowds. Then it celebrates the unity of our diocese with the Chrism mass in Owensboro on Tuesday. Then it observes the solemnity of the Last Supper, when Jesus gave us His body and blood. Then it mourns the fact that the same crowd which cheered him into Jerusalem then demanded his death on a cross. Finally, it celebrates the immense victory over sin, death and despair as Jesus rose from the dead. Don’t miss a single step of that great journey. NOVENA OF DIVINE MERCY We ask you to take part in this novena (9 days of prayer) for the sins of ourselves and the whole world. We will pray this as a community each day from Good Friday until the Sunday after Easter (Divine Mercy Sunday). If you cannot join us at church, we ask that you please do it at home, with your family (if you have one) - preferably at 3 PM, but whenever it is best for you. This will end with the Divine Mercy Holy Hour on Sunday, April 12 at 3 PM. The Hour of Mercy (when Jesus died for our sins). It is a plea for mercy, but also a celebration of the mercy that Jesus Christ so greatly desires to give to each and every one of us, if only we will take it. God’s Blessings, Fr. Steve
