WISH ONE ANOTHER A HAPPY EASTER A blessed and Happy Easter to you! You may be reading this bulletin in the church pew on Easter Sunday, online, by email, on Facebook, or maybe it was mailed to you at home. What a joy it is to write this greeting and share with you a very Happy Easter. Our hearts and our souls need to both hear and say these words of Happy Easter to one another. It is at Easter that we celebrate the joy of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the fact that He triumphed over the darkness of sin and death bringing to us the light of a new day. The word Easter is a strange word and it is hard to pinpoint the true origin of its meaning. At best we know it comes from the German language and means dawn. When we think of the dawn we think of morning and a new day. It is from the east that the sun rises each day and shines down upon our earth to bring it light, to warm its soil, and to bring all of creation to life. My encouragement, as we share in this Easter Day of 2024, is that we go out of our way to wish another a Happy Easter. Everyone needs the dawn of God’s light to shine on their lives. In your visits with parents and grandparents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, friends and strangers, wish everyone that you see a Happy Easter. Moreover, as you share this greeting believe that you are helping to lift their hearts through the true Son of God, Jesus Christ. Wishing another a Happy Easter may be the real power that they need to come out of the darkness of their lives and share in the glorious light of an empty tomb and glorious cross of Christ. Again, I wish you all a very Happy Easter, In Peace, Fr. Carl McCarthy, Pastor PASTOR ANNOUNCEMENT I want to take this moment to announce to the parish that I will be leaving Christ the King Catholic Church as your pastor. The date for the move is set for Tuesday, June 11, 2024. At that time I will be moving to Precious Blood Catholic Church in Owensboro KY, where I will serve as pastor. Bishop Medley has named Fr. Steve Hohman as the new pastor at Christ the King, effective the same day, June 11, 2024. Fr. Steve will be moving from St. Elizabeth, Clarkson KY and St. Paul, Leitchfield KY. There he has served as pastor of two parishes and a Catholic School. I have spoken with Fr. Steve and he tells me to share with you that he is looking forward to meeting you and sharing in your lives. The news of this change of assignments came from Bishop Medley in an initial conversation that I had with him on Monday, March 18 and was made formal through a letter of appointment on Wednesday, March 20. In closing this announcement, I want to thank each of you for the hope, faith and love that we have shared together since I came to Christ the King on June 13, 2018. In the next few weeks I look forward to sharing my personal gratitude with as many of you as I can. Please pray for me as I pray for you and all the good work that God is doing at Christ the King. Together, we have so much to be proud of as we have been totally on mission. I would also ask that we pray for Fr. Steve and the communities where he has been serving as he takes leave from them and moves to Madisonville. May the love of God fill us all with the hope and joy of the resurrection. If no one has told you today, “I love you all.” Fr. Carl McCarthy
